Guidelines and Groundrules for Volunteers - continued
As a Big Brothers Big Sisters representative, we would also like you to be aware of our guidelines and ground rules for matches outside of the School-Based Program.
Community Program:
- I understand that spending one-to-one time with my Little consistently is one of the most important things I can do as a volunteer. Therefore, I will meet with my Little 2 to 4 times a month for at least one year.
- I will inform the parent of all match activity plans and obtain their prior approval.
- I will not engage in activities that pose a risk of injury (i.e., speeding, not using seat belts, consuming alcohol or drugs).
- I will provide documentation that I maintain automobile liability insurance for any vehicle owned by me which will be used to transport my Little, and I will ensure that I am the only person who transports him/her, unless approved in advance by our Match Support Specialist and the parent/guardian. I will not transport other children at the same time without prior approval of our Match Support Specialist.
- I understand overnight visits are allowed only after six months with prior formal approval from my Match Support Specialist and my Little's Parent/Guardian.
- I will provide separate areas for my Little to change clothes, bathe, shower, and/or sleep when these actions take place during a match outing.
- I will not involve other children on match outings without prior approval of my Match Support Specialist and the parent/guardian.
- I will never sleep or nap with my Little in the same bed.
- I will maintain inaccessible any firearms I may have in my home.
Division of Juvenile Justice Re-Entry Program:
- I understand that spending one-to-one time with my Little consistently is one of the most important things I can do as a volunteer. Therefore, I will meet with my Little at least weekly while he or she is in the facility. After his or her release from the facility the above guidelines for the Community Program will apply.
- I will follow the guidelines provided by BBBS and Youth Facility staff regarding allowable items and activities inside and outside the facility.
- I will not bring my Little to my home at any time during our match relationship while he or she is a resident of the facility. Once my Little is released, I will only bring my Little to my home with prior approval from my Match Support Specialist. I understand that this might never be approved for my match.
- I agree to hold the DJJ Youth Center, and all members, agents, representatives, and employees of this organization harmless and free from liability for my actions as a volunteer in the BBBS DJJ Re-Entry Program.
